What is a Facebook Party?
Facebook (FB) Parties are a great alternative to the traditional home party. They allow a hostess all the same benefits of an in-home party, but with the convenience of being online. This is a plus if your hostess doesn't want to clean her house, but also a great way to pull friends and family together from all over the country!
A Facebook party with UBAM is held on an EVENT WALL, usually at a specific time, like Thursday evening at 9pm. On your event’s page you can share posts, upload photos, invite more guests and edit event details. Below we have provided you with a few sample scripts and graphics to use in your FB Parties.
Parts of a FB Party:
Step 1: Create a PRIVATE Facebook event page. Why private? Because you want to keep it intimate and personal. Creating a public event can appear spammy and we want our parties to feel exclusive and special to our host and their guests!
Step 2: TITLE YOUR PARTY with a fun and catchy name like, Raising Readers with HOST NAME! or Lovin’ Literacy!; FALL in love with Books!; etc…you get the idea! Be sure to also a cover photo (see albums on the Storyteller Facebook page or the UBAM Home Office Branding Facebook page).
Step 3: Make the sure the time is shown in the HOST'S TIMEZONE and be aware of that in the party description, too. You don’t want anyone to miss out due to a timing error!
Step 4: Add an exciting PARTY DESCRIPTION that entices people new and already fan-favorites to attend. Maybe we just had an new titles release or perhaps you’re running some amazing party specials! Keep it short and sweet but make sure to include basic info about WHEN it’s happening, WHERE it’s happening, and HOW to shop (add the eShow link from your ecommerce website).
Step 5: Make sure add a WELCOMING POST before anyone is added—it’s nice to show up to an event with something fun to look at or respond to. Maybe ask “How old are your readers” or share some fun facts about literacy and book ownership! Nothing sales-y—engaging or informative is the way to go for your pre-party posts.
STEP 6: PLAN/SCHEDULE YOUR POSTS. If you are using an auto-posting service, schedule your party posts—be sure to update and relevant information with current graphics, etc. If you are posting manually, plan out your posts. In either scenario, feel free to use one of our available scripts or write your own!
The goal of an auto-posting service is to make it as quick and easy as possible for you to prepare and run your Facebook parties. This will allow you to concentrate on having fun with your party guests and providing the best customer service possible.
